Homeeducate

The group is currently held every Tuesday.

The Children’s Fire is at the heart of Embercombe, influencing all our work. It is a concept of governance that holds children in the centre of all our actions and in our decision making process. Nothing we do at Embercombe should harm the children for seven generations hence. This attitude of consideration and reverence for the rights of our children is part of our education offerings across the full range of our programmes. Our Home Education groups honour all children’s right to learn and grow in a way that best supports their development.

(for children from 0 to 11 and their parents or caregiver)

Natural Learning is a group for families whose children learn in the world, sometimes called home education. At present a group of about ten families regularly attend our weekly Tuesday morning sessions at Embercombe.

This is a relaxed group that holds child-led learning at its heart; to provide a space for experiential learning to happen as opposed to setting out to ‘teach’ the children. John Holt, a famous home educator and un-schooler said, ‘Children do not need to be coerced into learning, they will do so naturally if given the freedom to follow their own interests and a rich assortment of resources. Learning is not the product of teaching, learning is the product of the activity of learners’.

Natural learning also offers parents an opportunity to discover the principles espoused by Hand in Hand . Hand in Hand parenting techniques can support individual parents to develop their connection to their child, which in turn supports the learning and growth of their child.

Quote:

“The Natural Learning Group creates a space for parents to breathe together and share the support of others following similar paths as the children grow and learn in Nature. What may look like play is, in reality, the developing of socially skilled, diverse young minds.” Claire Arnold, Natural Learning Group participant
