Embercombe is a registered charity. Our work would not be possible without the generous support that so many people provide in so many ways, including the thousands of hours of time that people give voluntarily each year and the many friends and supporters who help us financially.
Embercombe came into being thanks to an act of amazing generosity and since then it has continued to rely on the gifts of many hundreds of people in order to flourish and grow.
We invite you to make a donation now to help us meet the costs of delivering our life-changing work.
You can also make a donation over the phone using a credit or debit card by calling us on +44 (0)1647 252983.

Our mission is to inspire a new generation of leaders and change makers to take courageous action for a just, peaceful and sustainable world. Through all our work inside and outside of Embercombe, our community offers a vision of the future we know is possible. A world where all people live in communities that care for each other, who are connected to nature and enable each member to lead an empowered, fulfilling life.
We know that change needs to happen throughout society and that anyone can take a lead in bringing about change; and to that end Embercombe offers programmes that aim to reach as many individuals and groups as possible, regardless of their social or financial position.
Embercombe was established by Mac Macartney in 1999 as a ‘garden to grow people’ and the charity was formed in 2006. Embercombe is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, governed by a Board of Trustees and regulated by the Charity Commission and Companies House. The Trustees meet at least five times a year and take overall responsibility for the organisation and its works. You can download more information about the charity here:
We also work closely with organisations such as Imayla, LIFEbeat and Hawkspring who support and develop people and communities experiencing disadvantage, who find that our unique setting and approach is of huge benefit. The film below describes a visit to Embercombe by Hawkspring with a group of young adults from families with drug dependency issues.
We have established a Bursary Fund through which we offer subsidised places to individuals and organisations so that someone’s financial situation need not be a barrier to taking part in one of our life-changing and affirming programmes.
Support the next generation of young people to step into their power as authentic leaders and changemakers.
The Catalyst Course is a cutting edge 5-day residential programme equipping young adults with authentic leadership and change agent skills, and the confidence, courage and conviction they need to navigate the challenges of entering adulthood in this changing world.
Catalyst runs three times a year, with up to 28 young people attending each time.
“My ability to work and collaborate with colleagues improved dramatically after participating in the Catalyst Course. The skills I have gained in self-confidence I have applied to my life and work by taking leadership in a youth-led community project with national impact.”
Charlie Burls, Catalyst Attendee
Our dream is that Catalyst is accessible and affordable for all. The full cost of a place on Catalyst is out of reach for most young people.
With the help of Catalyst Alumni and Friends of Catalyst we are building a pay-it-forward community bursary fund. We have already received pledges from Catalyst Alumni of over £2300 to kick-start the process.
We know that the demand for affordable places continues to rise and this is a funding model that will sustain Catalyst into the future without public funding. Our target is that by 2017 a place on Catalyst becomes a gift that the community of people who have done Catalyst finance and run for the next generation of people participating.
