The Inner Kingdom

What do the old stories have to teach us about how to be a human being? And how can we encounter this ancient wisdom through the instruments of our bodies? Join movement maverick Carlos Tao and poet and storyteller Tommy Crawford for a wild adventure to the shimmering kingdom that resides at the centre of your chest.

Together we will journey alongside an ancient — but very much alive — folktale, and then feel, embody and explore the characters, landscapes and weather patterns that live within us through a movement practice centered around deep listening. The old stories — passed breath to breath for thousands of years — have so many secrets they wish to reveal to us, if only we have the ears to hear, and the eyes to behold.

We will gather like our ancestors did before us to weave our lives to the otherworld, and will emerge together, blinking in wonder and awe under a blanket full of stars.

Tommy Crawford

Tommy Crawford is a Poet, Storyteller, and Founder and Creative Director of the international mischief-making organisation, Dancing Fox. Combining his love for mythology, street art and improv theatre, Tommy works with artists and activists around the world to create “beautiful disruptions” — moments where the wonder of the world can flood in, and the bubbling magic that lives inside each of us can pour out.

He has curated and led workshops all over the world and has performed at Into The Wild, Shambala and WOMAD festivals, amongst others, and toured his poetry across both the UK and New Zealand.
