The pigs time on the land has come to an end for this year. A video update on how they have done is below.
The pigs have been on the land for a month, with access to a large meadow area which has been grazed by sheep for some time (with rest periods as they move around the land). The sward had become quite homogeneous and closed over, with very little bare ground. The rootling action of the pigs has opened up the soil, turned over the turf and created small micro-habitats which will provide new opportunities for plants, invertebrates and fungi.
We will watch with interest now the pigs have left, to see what beauty and diversity emerges.
