Our breathtaking surroundings are ideal for couples and their guests to celebrate, with various unique spaces available as well as on-site accommodation in our Yurt Villages, at a venue that is committed to protect wildlife and promote the importance of the natural world.

Workshop Spaces

Centre Fire

Centre Fire is our main building and workshop space and can accommodate up to 200 people. This large (13m x 12m) and versatile space can accommodate various activities including yoga, breathwork, performance, skills workshops, dances and speaking events. There are 7 large sofas on wheels that can be pushed to the side to create a large open space or brought into a circle around one of the 2 large log burners for a more cosy, intimate feel. We also have 50 wooden folding chairs that can be used for a more formal setting as well an additional supply of plastic chairs for larger events such as concerts.

With high ceilings, framed by large glass doors at both ends, it is a spacious area with views over the Teign Valley across the moors to Haytor. The neutral decor, along with a variety of light fittings on dimmer switches, enables you to create a range of atmospheres to suit your needs.

There is a digital input sound system mounted in the space which is of reasonable quality but for those requiring a specific quality and volume of sound, such as dance experiences, additional speakers are advised. This space also offers wifi and if required use of a small office space adjoining the main room can be accommodated.

The Mezzanine (6.70m x 4.30m ) is a breakout room above the main room, with a library and sofas and which is included in the hire of the venue.

The Linhay

Come and soak up the atmosphere at The Linhay, a unique timber-framed and handcrafted building that offers a space for smaller groups to meet (11.60 x 5 metres meeting space, excluding kitchen), whose build was a flagship project of sustainable construction, energy-saving and waste treatment in the area by the local community.

The Linhay is an open plan space including a kitchen where cooking (self-catered or in house) and tea-making can be accommodated as well as two toilets. Access is via stairs or ramp and so is one of the more accessible areas of our rural site for those with physical disabilities.

The room contains armchairs and sofas as well as a large table and can be arranged according to your workshop needs.

The Linhay can accommodate up to 30 participants depending on your planned activities.

Nature Spaces

The land at Embercombe is special. It is a place for nature connection, for self development, inspiration and engaging in nature conservation.  Our 50 acre valley on the edge of Dartmoor is a perfect place to find a deep connection with nature – wild nature around us and wild nature within us. It is a place to breathe, to reconsider, to regenerate and to relearn who we are. Our site is a mixture of ancient woodlands, meadows, a lake for wild swimming, food forests and established orchards to explore and unwind in the magical Devonshire Teign valley.

There is plenty of outdoor space in our rewilding valley including beautiful meadows, orchards, a natural build roundhouse, a ceremonial stone circle and various fire pits, perfect for ceremonies, sharing and music circles, and for connecting around the fire, in nature and under the stars.

Our ancient woodland contains an outdoor kitchen with basic facilities to host your outdoor sessions under the canopy of the surrounding trees. We also have a lake for wild swimming, food forests, established orchards and rewilded meadows to explore and unwind in.

Catering

Our Food Philosophy

All meals are prepared from scratch in our kitchen that creates organic, seasonal, freshly made plant-based food to give you the energy you need during your visit, and can cater for a variety of events including celebrations, ceremonies, holidays, corporate events and private retreats.

We source our vegetables as locally as possible, supporting local CSA’s and organic organisations, as the quality and taste of organic produce is undoubtable. We also believe organic produce is the best to support the microorganisms in your body as well as the soil! Meals are served at our communal Dining Yurt, the heart of Embercombe, where you have a choice of indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy your food.

Catering options include:

  • Breakfast is self-serve between 8am-9am. This consists of a selection of cereals, warming porridge with a variety of toppings and fresh fruit.
  • Lunch (served at 1pm) is usually light and consists of a different seasonal soup each day, home-made bread, with a fresh, crisp salad.
  • Dinner (served at 6.30pm) consists of a warm larger meal, such as a chard, potato and chickpea curry with basmati rice and dairy-free mint and cucumber yoghurt.
  • Lunch and dinner are either self-serve or if you wish to meet our chefs, they can serve you if arranged in advance.
  • Desserts such as apple crumble using apples from our orchards.
  • Snacks such as bliss balls, flapjacks or hummus and crudités.
  • Hot drinks and plant milks are available throughout the day at our tea-station in the Dining Yurt.

People with special dietary requirements are well catered and prepared for if we know in advance.

The Dining Yurt is the heart of Embercombe, the place where we gather to eat and celebrate our connection with seasonal, nourishing and locally-sourced food. Adjoining the Dining Yurt is our busy kitchen where our food is prepared to feed our guests. It’s a wonderful, buzzy, joyful space where we welcome visitors old and new.

Testimonial

“We’ve been hosting our retreats at Embercombe since 2020, and our experience with them has been nothing short of amazing. The staff are friendly, welcoming and utterly caring, from the bookings team, to the kitchen crew, to the wonderful hosts who assist us during our stay. The accommodations and the event spaces are always very clean, tidy and comfortable all year round (even in winter). The food is exquisite: wholesome, nutritious and tasty, and the kitchen team is outstanding in catering to all sorts of special diets. Finally, the surrounding nature is lush and the views of the valley are breathtaking. We wouldn’t want to host our retreat anywhere else!”
